南方大学中文系的同学在礼花和欢笑声中迎来了新的一年。 女生宿舍里正值青春豆蔻年华的姑娘们憧憬着未来，向往着幸福和爱情。一个叫仲月的姑娘认为，在欢度新年到来之际，第一个接到祝福电话的人应该是最幸福的。结果是丁玉（吴贞饰）第一个接到了她心中的白马王子----沙力（那钢饰）的祝福电话，她陶醉在幸福之中。 沙力的家乡很穷。父亲生前是个优秀的乡村小学校长，但是，由于山村的贫穷和艰苦，没有人愿意去他的那个山村小学教书，一个叫秀秀的姑娘却自愿地留在了那里。沙力的父亲告戒自己永远不要亏待把青春奉献给山村的孩子的小学教师秀秀。 无情的命运让秀秀患了白血病秀秀利用假期来城里看病。沙力知道后心情十分沉重。但秀秀得知病情震惊之后又坦然面对，匆匆踏上回村之路。 为了给秀秀治病，沙力不但节衣缩食而且拼命四处打工，甚至买血。丁玉也同情并设法帮助秀秀，但不能理解沙力对秀秀的无私帮助...。Colleagues Les and Natalie are delayed in the Albuquerque airport.
